HomeWhat I doFractional Head of Growth

Fractional Head of Growth · £2,500 or £4,000 a month

A Head of Growth who still does the work.

I own the plan, the numbers and the setup, and I do the work myself. Two fixed packages with everything listed, so there is no awkward money conversation on the call.

Who it is for

Traction, a small team, and nobody owning growth.

  • You have traction: paying customers, some channels working, a number you report to investors
  • There is a marketer, a designer or a developer in house, or there is nobody yet and you are doing it all
  • Nobody senior owns the growth number, the plan behind it and the stack underneath it
  • A full-time Head of Growth is a year away, and an agency would give you junior hands and a deck
  • You want someone in your Slack who will actually open Tag Manager, not just review the strategy

I take a maximum of 3 monthly clients at once.

Two packages

Core or Plus. The difference is how much of the work is mine.

Core

I share the work

For teams with people in house: a marketer, a designer, a developer. I do the technical work and guide the rest.

  • I own the growth plan and the numbers behind it
  • I build the technical parts myself: analytics, automation, reporting, experiments
  • The rest I direct: I brief your team and review the work
  • One experiment stream always running
  • Weekly growth meeting, monthly plan and report
  • Slack access, and my specialist network when a channel needs one

Not included

  • Running your team day to day (that is Plus)

I run the lot

For founders with no marketing team yet. I do the work myself and bring in specialists where needed.

  • Everything in Core, except I do the work rather than brief it
  • I run the channels, the lifecycle and the experiments myself
  • Two workstreams in parallel instead of one
  • Specialists brought in and managed where I need them
  • Board-ready reporting every fortnight, quarterly strategy session
  • Hiring support when you build the team in house

Not included

  • Ad spend and specialist fees (quoted separately)

Something in between, or something bigger? Let’s talk.

The first ninety days

Measure, plan, then rhythm.

Days 1–14

Definitions and measurement

The same first two weeks as Foundations, just quicker: what counts, what it is called, and whether the data can be trusted. If something is broken I tell you in week one and we fix it first.

Days 15–45

The plan, and the first stream

A written growth plan against the numbers we agreed. The weekly meeting starts. The first experiments go live, and the first email journeys get rebuilt or improved.

Days 46–90

Rhythm

Monthly plan and report. Winners rolled out, losers written up. On Core I guide your team against the plan. On Plus I run the channels myself and bring in specialists where needed.

When a channel needs a specialist, I bring one from my network: people I have worked with for years. I brief them, I check the work, and I own the outcome. Meet the network →

What a month looks like

A weekly growth meeting with the numbers on screen. One experiment closed and written up, one opened. An email journey improved. A brief to your designer or the paid specialist, and their work checked when it comes back. At the end of the month, a plan and a report you can forward to the board as they are.

In their words

From the people who kept me on.

“They set out a clear plan and have executed it very well. They also did a great job of setting up analytics and reporting across our marketing platforms to ensure that we can measure and optimise performance.”
Kit Norman · Founder, Augmentive
“Gio transformed the face of our company: we wanted to take metrics and analytics seriously, and Gio carried us smoothly through that process, and we’re a different company today because of it.”
Ismael Dainehine · Founder, MyTenNights and GiveMatch
“Giovanni ideated, planned, implemented and optimised several CRO tests on a monthly basis which has improved our website conversions. He fit right into our team of marketing, design and web dev. His data reporting and dashboards are comprehensive and easy to understand.”
Omoladé Bangudu · Marketing Manager, Givergy

Questions

About the retainer specifically.

What is the difference between Core and Plus, really?
Who does the work. On Core I build the technical parts myself and direct your in-house people for the rest. On Plus there is nobody to direct, so I do all of it and bring in specialists where I need to. Plus also gets two parallel workstreams, fortnightly board-ready reporting and hiring support.
Why a six-month initial term?
Because the first ninety days are mostly measurement and plan, and the results come in the second ninety. A shorter term would mean paying for the setup and leaving before the return. After six months it rolls on in three-month blocks, and you can give notice by the end of month five.
Do you run our paid ads?
I set the strategy, the measurement and the landing pages, and I manage the specialist who runs the account day to day. A paid channel at scale deserves someone who does only that. They are quoted separately and I stay accountable for the result.
How much of your time do we get?
I do not sell time. I sell the outcomes in the inclusion list, and I take a maximum of three monthly clients so I can actually deliver them. On Plus there are two workstreams instead of one; that is the honest way to say it is more of me.
Can we start on Core and move to Plus?
Yes, and the other way round. It usually happens when you hire your first marketer: Plus becomes Core, and I direct them.
Can we skip Foundations?
If your stack works, yes. If it does not, the first fortnight of the retainer is spent fixing it, and Foundations would have been the better deal. I will tell you which on the call.

Thirty minutes. No deck.

If I am not the right fit I will say so on the call, and tell you who is.
